Sixteen year old shot in the head

The trickle of blood on West Street near its intersection with Cemetery Road where sixteen year old Trevor Neal was discovered this morning adds to the ongoing bloodbath in Belize City. While the minor was riding his bicycle to work shortly after seven this morning he was accosted from behind by two armed men who unloaded a barrage of shots in his direction.  Pedestrians scrambled for safety as one of several bullets found its mark in the back of Neal’s head.  When the shots subsided the teenager lay gravely wounded on the pavement, his bicycle and other personal items missing from the scene of the shooting.  At first thought it would seem to be a calculated hit exacted on a rival amidst the constant enmity between two notorious gangs operating in the neighborhood.  But, by all accounts Trevor Neal was not affiliated in any such activity.  Instead, he is employed at Truck Parts of Belize Ltd.  According to his father, who wished to appear off camera, Neal is brain dead and on life support.

Voice of: Trevor Neal’s Father

“This morning one of his co-workers came to my house and they told me they had sad news for me so I asked them what?  So they told me that my son just got shot this morning and that he is in the hospital.  When we came to the hospital he was already in the operating theater so we had to wait until the doctors they were through before we could find out what the situation was.”

Isani Cayetano

“Do you know if your son was the intended target of this shooting or was he merely a victim of circumstance?”

Voice of: Trevor Neal’s Father

“I would say he was a victim of circumstance because as far as I can say he is not affiliated with no type of gangs or anything like that.  He’s the type of person who just goes from work to home [and] home to work, you know.  He doesn’t hang out so there was no reason for the shooting I would say.”

Isani Cayetano

“Was he on his way to work this morning when this incident happened? Do you know?”

Voice of: Trevor Neal’s Father

“That’s what we were led to understand that he was going to work this morning when the incident happened. You know, so further than that I cannot say.”

Isani Cayetano

“What are the doctor’s saying his chances are of surviving this ordeal?”

Voice of: Trevor Neal’s Father

“Well his chances are nil because when we spoke to the doctors, the doctors they told us that he was brain dead.  So right now he is on life support.  His heart and his lung is still function but the doctors they say it’s only a matter of time before those stop, the heart and the lungs stop functioning also.  So we just got to wait and see what happens.”

Isani Cayetano

“You went into the trauma room earlier [and] you identified your son.  Was this a case of a robbery because I was made to understand that not all of his personal effects were returned or were found on the scene?”

Voice of: Trevor Neal’s Father

“That maybe possible [that] it is a case of robbery because from what we were told he was on his way to work on his bicycle.  The bicycle was nowhere to be found and I was handed his personal effects and when I went through them I didn’t find any wallet in his personal effects either.  So probably that’s what happened, they robbed him or something like that I don’t know.”

According to police Press Officer Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood one person has been detained in connection with the early morning shooting.  Trevor Neal is the second minor to be targeted during shooting incidents in Belize City within the period of a month.  On March twenty-eighth, fourteen year old Devon Reynolds was shot and killed while walking on Caesar Ridge Road.

Normalcy returns back to the city again, not exactly a breath of fresh air for anyone. Frankly, I’m tired of reading this kind of news. The senselessness of these shootings/killings seems to have no end in sight. We have all said, begged, and pleaded to GOB to solve the issues; the waiting game has long begun.
Where is the love in Belize City?

  2. Gustav says:

  4. Elgin Martinez says:

No desrespect to our seniors. However with the current crime situation it seems to me that they are killing out our minors. As a result our seniors are going to out’number our minors.

  5. belizeanpride says:

personally i still oppose the bann of tint in crs, honestly this bann will not detain the killings and majority of the killings are done on bicycles and not in gateaway tinted cars.

When will this madness cease? How come guns are so readily available? I’m baffled…where did this mentality derive from?
Young, uneducated and deprived population of cowards killing each other while the adult population standing by watching and reacting. Where is the hope for the Black southside youth in Belize? Self hate is in heavy effect.

Seems like this west street area has always been a problem area, can we pay a visit around here and find out who all thes bad guys are if we already don’t know, common guys lets shut them down I can easily walk the streets of Belize as a police officer and know who is up to no good, they have no good mark all over them and their eyes are very busy they walk or ride bicycles with hoodies in 90 degree weather call it stereo type if you want but as apolice officer you should know what to look for. Remember, My Legacy B 4 My People.

  14. Disgusted! says:

OMMFG!!! This has got to be one of the saddest stories yet……..did anybody hear the deep, sorrowful mourning from a family member of the kid, in the background during the interview with the father on channel 7? OMG……..this is so harrowing. I couldn’t even watch the rest of it. Hmm!!!!!…I swear if any of these cold-blooded punks hurt anybody for me in Belize it will be a massacre in front of the court house or on the prison bus between trial AND ACQUITTAL!!!

  15. Sad says:

I watched trevor when he first came to belama as a little baby boy, him along with his sister..Mr. Hoare and his wife are very hardworking discipline parents, It broke my heart to see such a young person soooo innocent fell victim to something, lets say ..may never be solved. Poor thing as I saw his photo on the news, i reflected in times past when he would go to school him and his sister. Modest and respectful home he had, he was very quiet and polite himself, I’m so hurt, no parent should have to face a tragedy like this! All too many times young men become victims and nothing comes out of it, and all too many times you hear some are innocent when we truly no they weren’t. But in TREVOR’S Case, he is truly INNOCENT AND DOESN’T DESERVE THIS!!! I feel soo terrible for his parents! The crushed heartbreak they must have rite now!!! To the family my sincere condolences!!!!

  16. panasonic says:

where do they get the guns & ammunitions? Arent You supposed to have a license in order to purchased or carry a gun? We need to get to the bottom of the root, how did guns enter into our country? like 4 real how did these guns enter the Belizeans soil? See we need to focus on how the guns are coming in Belize , & put a stop to it.

  17. Earl Grey says:

    UNFORTUNATELY……………WE CAN’T KILL THEM…………

But we can send them to THE SUSTAINABLE REHABILITATION CENTER…..4 life……there THEY CAN EARN THEIR KEEP and CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIETY at no cost to tax-payers.

They can GROW FOOD FOR SCHOOL LUNCHES…. BUILD DESKS AND CHAIRS for schools, etc……..the least they can do is break rocks 12 hours a day.

BUILD THE SUSTAINABLE REHABILITATION CENTER TODAY…… for a BETTER TOMORROW.

The DEVIL finds work for IDLE HANDS…………….SO CAN WE.

  18. I Have Awaken says:

How interesting; the poor kill the poor, the frustrated blame the leaders, the fools defend the leaders from the frustrated and the leaders continue, despite all this, to maximize their material wealth. No one can see the picture, no one can see that only society can heal and help and fix society, not a single leader can do this, not single handedly anyways. Wake Up, realize that Dean Barrow, Musa or whoever is on a whole other level of this game, they are having their own battles on that level, just like we are down here, and it makes it much, much easier for them to continue on in what they are doing when we are fighting each other down here. A ‘man’ will never be forced to change, he can only be pointed and coaxed in that direction, and only he can make the decision via Free Will to change for positive. We need compassion, love, respect in this world, it is almost none existent…get yourself in an auto accident in this country and you will be robbed while your dead or dying mangled body lay on the ground; leave your home open by accident and you will be burglarized; walk in a dark alley and a female will be pounced upon; have the wrong clothes color on the wrong street and you will be murdered…..there are exceptions to this norm; but that is it; only exceptions for positive which should be the norm.

  19. BZNinCALI says:

But Earl, we should be able to put in that express line to the gallows.

I was so relieved when the violence did not get out of control over the Easter Holidays, I had hoped that the GSU being aggressive would slow some of these fools down. If the story is accurate & these guys were aiming at someone else but turned on this young man after missing their target, they should be treated like rabid animals because they can contribute nothing to society. If we cannot convict them in court, then we have to get rid of them by some other means.

  20. bzeangel says:

    RIP MY LIL CUZ

  21. belizeangirl says:

all theses crimes are nonsense. the PM always says he will do something and he doesn’t. he is a waste of time!!! what is the use of his power!!
