Gang Suppression Unit making busts throughout the Old Capital

The Easter holidays are a few days away so the Gang Suppression Unit is busy.  Before sunrise this morning, their focus was in one of the city’s hotspots, the George Street area. The first search was conducted at twenty minutes to five o’clock at the home of thirty year old Kareem Westby, a reputed member of the George Street Gang. Eleven point eight grams of cocaine was discovered at his house; some of it already packaged for sale. As a result, Westby arrested and charged for Drug Trafficking. The officers moved on to search an empty lot on East Canal and recovered a live hollow point nine millimeter round of ammunition along with two marijuana plants.

The items were seized and labeled as found property since no one was in the area. It got interesting when G.S.U. personnel found a magazine along with twenty-five live rounds of ammunition under an abandoned house on George Street. The clip and ammo are for M-sixteen rifles, which are commonly used by the Belize Defence Force. A bag containing a hundred grams of cannabis was also found on the property; all items were taken into police custody but again no one was in the area. Another big name in the George Street Gang is Gerald Tillett, aka “Shinny” and a search conducted behind his residence led to the discovery of a marijuana plant, an empty nine millimeter magazine and a sound suppressor for a nine millimeter pistol. While the items were not found in Tillett’s yard, they are believed to be property of the gang. And finally, on the strength of a warrant, the G.S.U. executed a search at the home of forty-one year old Tyrone Simmons, an accountant. They didn’t find any other weapon accessories, but Simmons was arrested and charged with Possession of Controlled Drugs for twelve grams of cannabis and Possession of a Crack Pipe.

The GSU wil never get rid of criminality this way. These criminals will not keep any compromising items on themselves, property, family members etc. They will stash them in empty lots, bushes and other areas unrelated to them. They are not stupid. What GSU needs to do is to intercept these criminals on thes treets, highways 24/7 and be on the offensive all the time, not after the crimes have been committed.

  5. Christian Girl says:

Alamilla, the GSU cannot do everything themselves. I congratulate the unit for disrupting the business of these criminals, without drugs and without guns they cannot continue to sustain their criminal behavior. Kudos to the Police for putting in all that effort. I hope the example sets in with the other police units in the Police Department as well. If each unit puts in their hard work, they can achieve greater results and we can control crime the way it should be. Keep up the hard work Gang Suppression Unit, we pray that the government continue to support your work and provide for your continued operations in our City. May you and your families have a peaceful Easter…

Good job keep going, make sure you search the surrounding areas also and across the street get a few metal detectors and don’t forget the canine team, I like the hours of your operation maybe even a bit earlier when they are still sleeping make it uneasy for them, when you have confiscated lots of weapons then you know that your job is paying off just finding live rounds without the weapons is not going to get it done, and don’t forget the bicycle riders they carry guns. Remember, My Legacy B 4 My People.
