Woman with Lebanese and British passports murdered

There have been twenty-four murders this year, twelve in this month alone. Sometime after seven this morning, the body of a fifty-four year old woman was discovered at her house in Orange Walk Town. She goes by the name of Isis Nassar and holds Lebanese and British passports. There are no known relatives in Belize but Nassar was teaching art at Banquitas in Orange walk Town. News Five Marion Ali found out that aside from the cold blooded murder, the perpetrators also rummaged the woman’s house.

Onlookers gathered outside the pink house on Riverside Street in Orange Walk Town as Scenes of crimes police personnel combed through premises, collecting whatever can be used as evidence in the murder.

The occupant of the house, fifty-four year old Isis Nassar was discovered inside lying on the floor with a cut wound to her throat and bruises to her elbow.

Police discovered that Nassar’s killer or killers entered her house through this window.  Once inside, they bound her hands and feet and ransacked the place.

“Only she was inside the house and only her personal belongings is there so we yet to ascertain what missing from what is not missing.”

Supt. Joseph Myvette, O.C., O.W. Police

“We have two persons currently who we are talking to and we are going to be doing some searches shortly and we are also following on several other leads.”

Marion Ali

“So the killer didn’t leave much at the scene I take it.  You haven’t found a knife, you haven’t found anything that would link the murderer to the scene?”

Supt. Joseph Myvette

“No.”

“We saw the window open like somebody force themselves inside and well I thought that somebody came to steal and Isis went out noh.  I didn’t imagine, I didn’t think she would be there—somebody would have murdered her.  I just thought maybe she went out because she had told me that when that church bell rings six o’clock she would get up and she would go to the market and buy some fruits.”

An artist by profession, Nassargave this interview only last week Thursday to our affiliate CTV 3, during which she spoke about her experience in Belize.

“I came initially to Belize to discover the material you have in Belize and I found out that there’s a lot of people who work with slate.  I went first to Succotz and San Ignacio.  I stayed there a month and I found the material different than what I’d ever worked with before.”

Up to the time of her murder, Nassar was working on a sculpture while she taught art lessons at the Banquitas House of Culture in Orange Walk.

Loyola Castillo, Support Group, Banquitas House of Culture

“She came to us and offered to give services to the community offering to painters and existing artists to elevate their level of art.   We had art classes this weekend and she preferred having it here because the students would look at nature and draw and sketch.”

Loyola Castillo who is part of the support team at the Banquitas House of Culture, told News Five that she grew concerned when Nassar did not show up for breakfast this morning.

Loyola Castillo

“When she didn’t come for breakfast this morning I called her cell about four times and she didn’t answer and I felt an alarm.  I felt that this is not right, so I called the owners of the space and we came over and we notice the windows were damaged, tampered with and we couldn’t get inside and one of the young men went in and opened the door and when we went in we saw her room all ruffled up and she was on the ground.”

Castillo said she saw Nassar only last night when they had supper together.

“Normally after her supper she would request for us to show her movies.  So my husband sat with her, he put on a movie and about eleven o’clock my mom told him; he dropped her off.  Well I called him this morning to tell him the sad news and he said he saw her come in.  Neighbors that came over this morning, one neighbor said that yes, she told him about one person that she was not comfortable with.”

Police are still gathering information from neighbors to determine if anyone saw or heard anything strange at Nassar’s residence overnight.  Marion Ali for News Five.

Police will continue to process the murder scene on Friday.

    YOU KNOW…………..THE MORE I HEAR THESE STORIES………
THE MORE I THINK CAPITAL PUNISHMENT IS NECESSARY.

    Sad but true…………

WE NEED TO MAKE EXAMPLES OF THESE BUMS.

ANOTHER NORMAL, WONDERFUL DAY IN PARADISE COURTESY OF THE CURRENT AND PAST GOVERNMENTS AND THE INCOMPETENT, CORRUPTED BELIZE POLICE DEPARTMENT….. MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE FRIENDS AND LOVED ONES OF THIS UNFORTUNATE LADY. I HOPE HER FAMILY HIRES A FOREIGN PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR AND A HIT MAN TO DEAL WITH THE MATTER……………NEXT VICTIM PLEASE!!!

  3. Sugar says:

U just have to go to any of the cayes and U see female tourists walking around in the company of “dudious” characters. these female need to take care of themselves also….last week there was one who was raped in one of the cayes……they hand around with undesireable people and then end up paying the price. NOT that the killing is by anyway justified, but everyone needs to look after their own safety……

  4. Jose Chacon says:

Its sad to see that people come to offer their expertise to Belize and this is how we pay them….my sympathies to her family.

  5. BZNinCALI says:

Again, no good deed goes unpunished. Last week we had one family in Progresso fighting with the construction crew in front of the people who were donating the building, a young man raped a tourist & the week or two before that another tourist got a black eye as she was mugged. While I understand the fear that our people feel which ends up condoning the criminal behavior, at some point Belizeans have to have enough of a spine to stand up & speak up. Look at it from the point of view that you may be next regardless of how invisible you try to make yourself. The children & others who benefit from the Peace Corps & other organizations who donate their services will suffer because at this rate, eventually they too will be pulled out of our country

  6. Earl Grey says:

ONLY BY FINDING PEOPLE GUILTY OF THESE CRIMES AND KILLING THEM WILL WE STEM THIS CRIME WAVE………or is it A CRIME TSUNAMI?????????

WE DON’T WANT TO DO IT BUT……….the situation seems to be calling for it.
