American faces 30 years if convicted of sex crime

Roland J. Flath

A few days ago, U.S. authorities reported that they had smashed an international pedophile ring and rescued two hundred and thirty-four children. This Tuesday, an elderly U.S. citizen was indicted by a grand jury in the Eastern District of Wisconsin for “traveling in foreign commerce and engaging in and attempting to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor.” It’s a long charge but it all boils down to the arrest of seventy-one year old Roland J. Flath who is facing serious charges before the U.S. courts for a visit to Belize in July 2006 and allegedly molesting a minor. Flath was charged in abscencia in the Wisconsin court in October 2010 when a criminal complaint was filed, but it wasn’t until February of this year that he was arrested in Guatemala and handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Marshals. The elderly man is no first time offender and his record includes charges for Possession of Child Pornography and Sexual Assault of a Child. If convicted of the latest charge, Flath faces a prison term of up to thirty years and a two hundred and fifty thousand dollar fine. The case falls under Project Safe Childhood, a U.S. based initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

  2. BZNinCALI says:

And the old pervert gets to live out his final days being ravaged by angry young men with daughters on the outside. Maybe one day we can do the same to our pedophiles.

  3. Disgusted! says:

This animal travelled in foreign commerce engaging in and attempting to engage in illicit sexual conduct in Belize and probably Guatemala where he was caught and quickly expelled into officials’ hands. Unfortunately He was not caught in Belize; I would have suggested the death sentence.

    Where was the teen ‘mother?

What is our GOB planning to do about his system being burrowing into by the anti-socials of the American system? Right now It seem like the international relationship deal that the GOB signed with American also made it legal for their criminals to abuse our system and get away with it. I believe in fair trade, but how many Belizeans in the American prisons have to do their time before they are deported back to their birth land.

I am not prejudice but I hate it when I hear about another damn foreigner that comes to Belize for his dirty habits with little children. Parents don’t trust your children with anyone. Be vigilant!!!!!! He needs to pay for what he did in BELIZE!!!!! Belizeans use the aggressiveness you used at the House of Representative yesterday to PROTECT your children. You are using your energies in the WRONG place!!!!

  6. Sugar says:

Belize has to kiss a$$ with USA so it will not rock the boat….but, it might be better that he get 30 years in USA cause in Belize, there is no justice. U no see that mexican plead guilty fu counterfeit and gun and ammo and the stupid magistrate say ” U are free to go”

  7. Swamp Dragon says:

Send him home. He would probably hire Dickie Bradley here and get off! The US has his number and he will spend his days in prison. Never to be released.

  8. Storm says:

Nothing worse than a child molester. IF CONVICTED, THEY SHOULD ALL BE CASTRATED.

  9. Elgin Martinez says:

Mr Barrow why havn’t you requested that this pedophile be extradited to Belize to face charges? If it was one of our Belizean brother or sister that comitted a crime in the US you would have them on the plane to be flown to the US to face charges. What a double standard. And you talking about restoring the Jewel Get the F out a here.

  10. cg says:

why do they still let sex offenders walk free? these people leave scarred living victims who have to live with the fear of them walking around. they should never be set free!

  11. Tom B says:

Swamp Dragon has it right. If he catches 30 years in the US penal
system he won’t come out still walking. People like this are no more
popular with the average Gen Pop prisoner than they are on the outside.
