American snorkeler found 24 hours after expedition alive

While the search continues for three missing Cubans, a US National was safely pulled out of Belizean waters, also near Caye Caulker. Four men set out on a snorkeling expedition on Saturday. Fifty-five year old American, Jack Burnette, who now resides in San Pedro, took his friends Kenneth Cox, Gary Paumgargmar and Eric Resse, to experience the underwater wonders one mile north of Caye Caulker. They arrived at one p.m. and when the group returned to the boat forty minutes later, Resse was nowhere to be found. But at ten minutes after twelve the following afternoon, after almost twenty-four hours, Resse walked into the Caye Caulker Police Station and reported that he was rescued by a tour guide from mangroves near The Split in Caye Caulker.  Resse was medically examined and is in good health.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN RESIDENT GRINGO’S TRY TO PLAY TOUR GUIDE’S WITH THEIR VISITING FRIENDS.

Cudo’s to the tour guide that rescued the missing fella

  2. Lisa says:

Did Burnett report the matter to the police as a missing person? or did he think it would just go away?

  3. daveyt says:

GRINGOs???? Kenneth Cox has lived in Belize for almost 30 years. He pays his taxes and works hard for a living, and doesn’t thieve – which is more than a lot of Belizeans can claim!!! If there weren’t any residents in Belize, contribuing to the economy, we’d in a much worse state than we are right now…..

Obviously islander is p*ssed off because they didn’t ask him to conduct the snorkelling trip/he couldn’t hussle them….

    Sorry, in my haste I mis-spelt contributing….

Pretty quick to lash out Islander. Atleast the guy was alright. Accidents often happen on the sea, even just offshore. Seems to happen to the native Belizeans quite frequently. Atleast this incident didn’t result in someone’s death. Good thing the guide that found him wasn’t so bitter. Almost at the split sounds like he just about made it ashore by himself.

  6. The People Had Enough says:

Why does it seem that Americans have a predisposition to dying stupidly? Hurricane Iris hit the south; you know who died, foreigners and one poor Belizean who thought her life was worth less that her job. Not jabbing at foreigners, just find it odd that they do stupid things and always end up dying. Glad they were found.
