50 U.S. volunteers to aid in construction of school which was under attack

A group of over fifty persons, including students and contractors from the Monterrey Bay Academy Seven Day Adventist High School, arrived in Belize today. The purpose of their visit was to construct a new Seven Day Adventist School in Progresso Village, replacing the current one which is congested and not up to scratch. But the project is at risk following a brawl on Monday in which one family and construction workers used machetes, shovels and other construction materials as weapons. Two persons were hurt in the violence that was started by a family squatting on the land, owned by the missionaries. Their beef is that the new construction is on a portion of the property that they have been using as a road and they want the stop the work, even though they are being provided with a different access road. In the coming days the group will evaluate the security risks, especially to their students, and decide on the fate of the project. They are considering three options; to continue building, find a different school that can use the help or abandon the project altogether and head back to the US. Lynden Kruse, a representative from the school, told News Five on Tuesday that they have contributed several school buildings across the country and the outcome of this situation could gravely affect future initiatives.

I would strongly recommend the police visit The Wesbys with an ULTIMATUM. Either stand down or will have her ….. @$$ dragg before a Magistrate. The sad part of all this is that the Wesby family were once S.D.As, enjoyed and benefited from the school but, have forgotten how Mr. Sweet fed and clothe them. The Ministry of Education should seriously consider the possiblilty of losing future assistance from this organization. These youth pay all expenses for trip and lodging. They pay for all material used and donate their labor at no cost to the taxpayer. That they have built schools in Benque and Orange Walk is true. I Lucas personally know the person who donated the funds for the doors and windows in Benque and for the roof in Orange Walk and can assure said person is watching and is very disturbed.

I hope someone was accurate enough to hit a few of the family members on their heads with those shovels & knocked some sense into them so that they can stop this foolishness. This may be the point where the village steps in & get a cease & desist order & look at having them legally banned from the village.

The last thing our country needs is to have one of these fools kill or injure an adult volunteer or worse someone’s child. If they are unable to reason, REMOVE THEM. How much more ungrateful can a squatter get? I’m surprised they did not claim the owner promised to give them the place..

    Does IGNORANCE breed more IGNORANCE??????????????????????????????????

Just leave…. The people of Belize don’t appreciate anything and will destroy it as soon as you leave. Don’t worry Belize have a hurricane instilled for them this year and we will see everyone begging for help and pleading to the US and others for help. I will watch this disaster in my house in Miami with a beer. LOL! The hurricane will be a cleansing for Belize.

One cannot get more ungrateful than this, I say run them off the land all together and yes ban them from the village, where is the police have any arrest been made? Remember, My Legacy B 4 My People.

First of all, CRAZY…I am a Belizean and I don’t appreciate your Umbrella comment about “the people of Belize”…it’s THOSE particular people!!!!! Anyhow, moving on…..

I think this is very disgraceful for THOSE people to behave that way, we sure do need the help and they are making it bad for everyone….if they choose to abandon and find another School….KIDSFIRST Child Development Center (Dangriga) will welcome them with open arms. The Police need to deal with those people acting like that and I don’t think it was a good idea to show all that for kids to see.

  8. So Disappointed says:

That’s the mentality of the People of Progresso, I am not surprised in the least. Most of these people are uneducated and extremely ignorant there is no way on this earth you will be able to reason with ignorant people. This explains why the village of Progresso have not progressed it is at lease 30 years behind the rest of the country. So sad…….

  9. speedy says:

@ Crazy not all Belizeans are ungreatful, so don”t make a generalized statement about Belizeans. That’s just one of the ignorant ungreatfuls. Most belizeans are greatful and nice people, just like anywhere in America and the world u have the nagative typos

  11. Elgin Martinez says:

Cindy:Belizeans are educated what are you talking about? You better check your facts

  12. Disgusted! says:

End to a long story. Where your goodwill is not appreciated, neither are you. Move on to another appreciative third world country and leave these savages to wallow in their own ignorance, poverty and backward mentality. These are harsh words but that’s how these people will appear to foreigners after that shameful, disgusting video goes viral. This is the 21st century. While the rest of the world is progressing, Belizeans are killing each other over pettiness. What a F$#@ing embarrassment!!!
