Over the weekend there was a major heist at the Maya Island Air office at the Philip Goldson International Airport. The brazen thieves easily penetrated the building and walked away with items, including tools, electronics and appliances as well as aircraft equipment. Over one hundred and thirty-one thousand dollars. Two men, thirty-one year old Lindon Young of Ladyville and twenty-one year old Ervin Franklin of Lord’s Bank, were charged today with Burglary of Maya Island Air, Theft of two metal carts belonging to Belize Airport Concession Company and two counts of Handling Stolen Goods for over twenty-two thousand dollars in items that were recovered.

No plea was taken from the accused men because the case will go to a preliminary inquiry and, if there is sufficient evidence, it will go before to the Supreme Court for trial. Twenty-seven year old Carlos Vargas, the manager of Maya Island Air, reports that he arrived at work on Saturday morning and noticed that three doors were open. He made checks around the office and the hangar and found that several items were missing. When police visited the airport, they saw that the culprits gained entry first into the Tech Library, then headed to the Tool Room and used the carts from B.A.C.C. to move the items. Police investigations led them to search Franklin’s house, where a number of the stolen items were found.

  1. Disgusted! says:

It takes only 2 average sized, unarmed teenagers to infiltrate our international airport and clean out an entire airline unbeknownst to the “TOP SECURITY” that is posted there to secure the department. Yet, we wonder how the drug planes and human cargo flights come and go undetected! This is an open invitation to terrorists. WHAT A !@#$ING SHAME, DISGRACE AND UTTER SCANDAL FOR ALL THE WORLD TO SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still no word from the sissies in government!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. BZNinCALI says:

Why is there not 24 hour security at the airport? Thank God these two geniuses did not imagine that they were pilots & stole an airplane.
