Shoman Family gets justice as murder conspirators convicted

The murder of businessman Jose Shoman and his family was foiled on the night of December thirteenth 2008, but five of the six men who plotted the crime were tried and convicted for conspiracy and firearm charges. The group of men, dubbed the Shoman five, appeared before Justice Adolph Lucas today for sentencing. They were sentenced to ten years each for Conspiracy to Commit Robbery. On the charge of Conspiracy to Commit Murder Miguel Mayorga and Cesar Aldana got an additional fourteen years, while Guatemalan Nationals Eswin Rosalez, Carlos Juarez and Jose Cordova got twelve years.  Mayorga will serve an additional eight years for firearm and ammunition offences, for which the other four men were acquitted. The sentences are to run concurrently which is a total of fourteen years for Mayorga and Aldana and twelve for Rosalez, Juarez and Cordova. Judge Lucas told Mayorga that the reason for the fourteen year sentence was for facilitating the planning session at his house and providing the weapons. As for Aldana, he was seen as a ringleader and he tried to lure two of Shoman’s employees into helping them gain access to the property. The plan was to invade Shoman’s house, rob him and murder the seven family members. But employees, Eric Miranda and Hector Perez, who were asked to assist in the crime, alerted Shoman and the police. Francisco “Pancho” Martinez was also a mastermind behind the plot, but he was released on bail and absconded to Mexico where he is in prison for other offences.

  3. Justice says:

I am glad to see that justice was served. But why can’t it be so for all cases? The plot was hirriufic and they are sentenced. the ones who execute their plots are still out there killing people. If it were the PMs family that got killed would justice then be served? This seem to be an animal farm situation in Belize. All people ae equal but some more equal than others!

  4. Reel says:

I like the long sentence for conspiracy to commit roberry and murder, but now let us see 20 and 30 years for those murderers with no parole!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Disgusted! says:

I am grossly disappointed with these sentences. These B@$tards were planning to massacre an entire family subsequently to robbing them. The only reason this plot didn’t actually materialize was because of the accomplices who got cold feet. So, in essence, they are theoretically guilty of mass murder/ robbery and should have been sentenced to death. Belize’s justice system is a !@#*ing basket case. I know my comments seem harsh and cruel but that’s the point, speak now or forever hold thy peace!

  6. Elgin Martinez says:

I am disappointed that all Belizean Citizens who are victims of heinous crimes are not given the thesame type of justice that was given to the Shoman family.

  7. Earl Grey says:
