Women in Art, 40 artists, 70 pieces on display at the Bliss

This month is being celebrated as Women’s month.  On Thursday night we previewed an exhibit opening at the Image Factory. But there is another event launch at this very moment which has the participation of over forty artists. The annual Women In Art takes place tonight at the Belisle Art Gallery at the Bliss.

Kimberly Vasquez, Producer, ICA

“We are launching the exhibit Women in Art. It is a visual art exhibit and I think we have the participation of about some forty female artists with over some seventy pieces of artwork here.

“The styles aren’t limited to any particular type?”

Kimberly Vasquez

Kimberly Vasquez

“No, no, no! We have embroidery, we have paintings in different medium—water colors, oils; we have photography. And ahm, we have I think jewelry as well.”

Jose Sanchez

“What’s the significance of having a Woman In Art Exhibit?”

Kimberly Vasquez

“Well as you know this is women’s month, and we do this in conjunction with women’s month. And I think this is a way for female artists to get their voices out there and also as a way of unifying women in art. We have quite a mix. We have women who have been working in art a long time for example: we have Carolyn Carr here, we have Ingrid Cayetano, we have Tanya Yorke Barrow as well as some younger upcoming artists.”

Jose Sanchez

“How long will the exhibit be open?”

Kimberly Vasquez

“It will run throughout the month of March. And let me just say that women in art and this visual exhibit is only part of a larger program called women in art. We have other activities lined up through the month of March. On the twenty-fifth, we have a forum called Thirty years of Women in Art and on the twenty-sixth of March we have a showcase called Divas and Starlets.”

Jose Sanchez

“The pieces are for sale or just for viewing?”

Kimberly Vasquez

“Some of the pieces are on sale and some are just for exhibit.”

The organizers of the event promise the opening will be dynamic, captivating and interactive for audiences. It’s open free to the public.

How come we comment and bicker about politicians, petty crime, religion, etc but never about what enriches the soul in a secular manner? It is time that as a society we mature.
