Arielle knows What’s Happening across the Jewel

It’s the first extended weekend since the start of the year and we know that all the hard working folks are looking forward to some extra play time. Our entertainment host, Arielle, has a long list of ideas on how spend the three day weekend and there’s something for everyone; art enthusiasts, music lovers and even the health nuts.

So! I’m pretty sure everyone’s excited about the long weekend coming up and I’m here to give you the run down on some activities u can be sure to check out!…….

In Orange Walk, Yo Creek Sacred Heart R.C. School is having a karaoke competition this Saturday. The first place winner walks away with $75.00 and second place gets $50. The entrance fee is $1.00 for kids, $2.00 for adults and $5.00 for reserved tables. But wait! There’s more… KTV Latino’s very own Giovannie Rodriguez will be performing live and keeping everyone entertained. There will be lots to eat and drink, it starts at 7, and it’s all happening at the Yo Creek Community Center……………..

The Image Factory Art Foundation is presenting two new explosive exhibitions; the release of Yasser Musa’s book entitled “El Fleco” also Katie Usher and Jill Burgess presents… “certain words am not allowed to say on TV so we’ll just call….”seriously misunderstood women” so be sure to check out these two electrifying exhibits tonight at the image factory…………..

The Kidney Association of Belize presents “know your health status.”  A mini health fair to be held on  March 11 at the Belize City Center grounds in recognition of “World Kidney Day” participating groups include; The Kidney Association along with the Belize Medical Labs testing for “blood urea nitrogen”  and “Creatinine” with same day results, The Belize Diabetes Association testing glucose, Karen Rosito and Robert Mariano from “nutrition for health” doing body mass evaluation and nutritional advice, the ministry of health checking pulse and blood pressure, PAHO and The World Health Organization giving health information about prevention, and plenty of nurses providing consultancy advice and test results cards along with referrals to NHI clinics and doctors. Lots of handouts will be available with information about causes and prevention of chronic diseases. All this will be done for you FREE of cost, that’s right free of cost! So be sure to head over the civic Center grounds on March 11th from 9am to 3pm and be a part of World Kidney Day 2011……………….

Come out to the Bliss Center and witness… “Women in Arts” the exhibit it will feature art work from women throughout the country of Belize, displays will include; visual arts, painting, graphic design, drawings, photography, ethnic art, bamboo art, and embroidery. Its starts on March 4th and runs until March 31st……………….

On Saturday March 5th at the MCC tennis court it’s the 2nd annual “Roots Rock Reggae” peace concerts and reggae fest party, performing artists include; Mr. Perfect str8 out of Jamaica, Ras Indio, Nello Player, Black Berry, Earnestine, Tonya Carter and more. Music will be provided by Federation 501 sounds, Unity sounds, Mad Rocka, and DJ KAD. The host of the event will be Ms Linda Blease. Doors open at 9. Tickets are $20 in advance and $30 at the door………

Bowen and Bowen Ltd, in partnership with Ben the Builder, have stepped in to revive the traditional activity of kite flying which started in 1975. The kite festival will be held on Marine Parade, in the open field in front of the Celebrity restaurant, one of the only places where high tension wired will not pose a safety hazard. It will feature a kite competition with different types of kites. Attractive cash prizes and gift packages will be presented for both junior and senior kite-makers in several different kite categories. Kites will be judged on appearance, design, aerodynamics and performance. There will also be several other varied and interesting activities happening around the festival site on that day. All kites enthusiasts are invited to come out and fly their favorite kites………..

I also want to remind you all of the “Read a Loud” Program to be held this Saturday at the Thurton Library Center at 10 am. And children between the ages of  5 and 13 are all invited.

Be sure to tune in to channel 5 this Tuesday and every Tuesdays for KTV Latino and vote for your favorite singers using your smart phones
