City Council’s Bandstand and Open Day

The Belize City Council is known for maintenance of streets, garbage collection, property tax collection and the fiery rift between its mayor and central government. But there is more to the council than controversy.  According to City Councilor Dion Leslie, this week the council is acknowledging citizens who have contributed to the improvement of the city, embarking on an education campaign of its work and inaugurating a new public bandstand for artists.

Dion Leslie, City Councilor

“This week is the fifth anniversary of this city council being in office. we’re culminating this anniversary by having a list of events that started from Tuesday with a church service for the council and its employees, today we have an .award ceremony—we’re acknowledge all the good residents and corporate citizens who have made the work for the city council possible and who have donated to all the events that the council has been doing for over the past five years and so you know, we want to give those people proper acknowledgement and we are doing so today. Tomorrow, the council is having an open day in the NICH parking lot starting at nine o clock. We’ll have all the departments out there from the council showing the people what the council really does. Cause a lot of people really think that the council is only responsible for streets and drains and garbage.”

“What about the stand that is being constructed in the B.T.L. Park?”

Dion Leslie

“Well as you know, we inaugurated the first bandstand in Battlefield Park ending of last year and that was for the Southside of Belize. Now we have the one in B.T.L. Park where the council does have a lot of activities such as our back to school drive and our Christmas drive and now with the bandstand there, you know, we are offering the infrastructure to promote culture, to promote Belizean artists. The council can’t always be there having the events even though we do, so we are offering the infrastructure to the local artist to go out there, utilize the bandstand, throw your mini-concerts and whatnot. Again the council is here to help the residents of Belize City not only when it comes to those few tasks that they want to limit us to but for other things.  And as the councilor in charge of special events and culture, that bandstand I hold special to my heart and I have to thank Mister Hands for building the second one and maybe you never know there might be a next one on the way. So I encourage Belizean citizens, residents and even people from outside; come have events in the park, lively up the city, bring back the love, bring back the safety, just bring back entertainment in the city. And that is what this council is trying to do.”

As far as I’m concerned, anything that puts more money into the coffers of the thieves at city hall should be temporarily suspended until they vacate the office after this, their last term in government. Zenaida Moya and her minions have stolen enough already. No-one should support them. Same applies to all ministers from BOTH parties!!!

THIS is…………………………THE BEST THING THIS CITY COUNCIL EVER DID.

I LIKE THE IDEA FOR PERFORMING ARTISTS……..WHERE THE PUBLIC CAN ENJOY PUBLIC MUSIC, DANCE, THEATER AND OTHER CULTURAL EVENTS, enriching our SOULS as a nation.
