Mexican national gets bail for unlicensed gun and ammunition

Miguel Guzman

Mexican soldier Jose Beltran is believed to have crossed the border already after being granted bail by Magistrate Clive Lino. On February twenty-fourth, Beltran was arrested in the Corozal Free Zone and was found in possession of an unlicensed point twenty-five caliber handgun, accompanying rounds and twenty thousand dollars in US currency. But a bank at the Zone found that eighteen hundred dollars were counterfeit. Beltran pleaded guilty to possession of counterfeit currency, but the Magistrate ordered his release because there is no US agency to verify the authenticity of US bills found on him.  Beltran was processed quickly on Friday of last week and was convicted and sentenced to four years in prison for keeping a firearm and ammunition without a gun license. The sentences of two years for each of the charges were to run concurrently but tonight Beltran, a resident of the state of Tabasco, is a free man because he was granted bail when he appealed the conviction. News Five spoke with Superintendent Miguel Guzman of the Corozal Police Formation by phone earlier today.

“His name is actually Jose Luis Robles Beltran.  He’s a Mexican national.  He was convicted or he was taken to court on the charges of possession of keeping firearms and ammunition without a gun license.  He pled guilty [and] he accepted the fact.  Subsequently the presiding magistrate sentenced him to two years for each count.  However, he appealed the conviction and subsequently the magistrate approved the appeal and he was released on a bond of five thousand dollars. The two years were to be served concurrently, if he would have been sent to prison.”

The decision to grant Beltran bail despite being found with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition after stringent laws had been passed for such offences is baffling.

WOW! The Belizean judicial system is amazing. We certainly have our problems in the US, (one of which is that people with lots of money are usually better defended), however, I don’t think you’ll see anyone getting five years for stealing bread while murderers, drug dealers, counterfeiters, and people possessing illegal firearms walk free.

I believe it is not just irresponsible of magistrate Lino to have granted bail it is criminal. I brought a case b4 magistrate Lino a few years back where I took a contractor to court who I had caught stealing, Lino’s final verdict was that I pay the thief close to $5000.00 for wrongfull discharge! Since when is it against the law to fire someone for stealing! I think there’s some truth to the numerous aligations that Lino has accepted bribes for favourable outcomes of the cases he’s tried. I believe pple who also believe they have been victimized by Lino should share their expereinces and petition to have him removed.

I say get magistrate Clive Lion off that bench as he is useless and mostly either accepting bribes or is just a crony taking orders from above it’s all about the money, money, money maybe they are working for the Mexican mafia also someone needs to really look into this, will we let them continue their wealth building legacy scheme? Even if it means embarrassing Belize in front of the whole world. Remember, My Legacy B 4 My People.

  4. MyLegacyB4myPeople says:

Maybe Mr. TRANSPARENCY and ACCOUNTABILITY got the Twenty Thousand US dollars to add to his wealth building legacy scheme, if he takes no action on this issue you can most certainly say that he is endorsing this type of behavior and is also benefitting from the many wrong doing within the government to add to his wealth building legacy scheme. Remember, My Legacy B 4 My People.

  5. The People Had Enough says:

I wonder if a Belizean can pull this off in Mexico?

This my people, is one case where I have absolutely no problems whatsoever with anyone casting aspersions, even lambasting the judicial system and disrespecting the Prime Minister himself. What kind of message is being sent to our local thugs when a Mexican can be found guilty of unlicsened gun and ammunition and is granted bail? Something here stinks to high heavens.
That crook parading as a magistrate also needs to be investigated; but then again if the corruption had it’s blessings from up top, then we are all wasting our time.
By the way, can anyone say if this Clive Lino is the same P Boy from down south? If it is, then shame on you paadna!!

  11. Jea says:

This is the previous work of magistrate Lino “Dangriga magistrate Clive Lino had allowed him bail a week earlier despite strong objections by prosecutor Sgt. Kenneth Magdaleno.

Magistrate Lino has again granted the alleged child molester bail this week.

One of the girls, the eldest, reported that her father also sodomized her.” I believe its time he goes to Hattieville to be sodomized.
