Is Belizean headed for career in N.F.L.?

Story PictureViewers of this newscast are no strangers to the exploits of Belizeans who make it big in international professional sports. The name Milt Palacio immediately comes to mind in N.B.A. basketball, Marion Jones in athletics and fifteen years ago we chronicled the accomplishments of Chito Martinez, a Belizean who spent three years with major league baseball’s Baltimore Orioles. Come later this summer, with a little bit of luck, we may see the first Belizean suit up for a game in the U.S. National Football League. Colin Ferrell, the son of Belizeans Steven Ferrell and Ava Tucker of New York, was a standout defensive tackle at Kent State University. He is one of thirteen free agent rookies who have been added to the roster of the Indianapolis Colts. They will compete with the Colts’ nine draft picks and returning veterans for a spot on the fifty-three man squad. At six feet tall and weighing in at three hundred and one pounds, Ferrell’s vital statistics are definitely up to N.F.L. standards and can presumably be attributed to a regular diet of rice and beans. We look forward to following Colin’s career in the trenches at one of the sport’s most punishing positions.
