Brother-in-law killer gets 14 years for manslaughter

Wyatt Anderson

Exactly one week ago Wyatt Anderson was convicted of Manslaughter for fatally stabbing his brother-in-law, Robert Brown. Today Anderson was initially given the minimum sentence of fifteen years, but it was reduced to fourteen because his attorney, Ernest Staine asked the court to consider the year his client has already served while awaiting trial. Anderson was visibly upset about the sentence and Staine explained on his behalf, that he expected to be exonerated. In fact, Anderson was so angry over the conviction that he refused to provide names for character witness to give mitigation pleas, leaving Staine alone in pleading for leniency. In handing down his decision, Justice Adolph Lucas, told Anderson that he did himself a disservice because he walked away from the scene, threw away the weapon in the presence of a policeman and never handed himself over to police when he was wanted. But Justice Lucas also considered that the evidence didn’t show that Anderson intended to kill Brown. The stabbing was on November twenty-second, 2008 when Anderson got news that Brown threw Guinness on his sister. He confronted Brown on Curassow Street, where they got into a struggle. Anderson claims Brown attacked him with a knife and was injured while they fought for the weapon. He went into hiding after the incident and was not arrested until March tenth, 2009.

Another killer thought he was entitled to walk away from a murder. Wow. A life was taken at his hands, I believe the dead man told him he was stabbed and he did not stop fighting the man. Justice was served on this one.
