Barrow bursts COLA’s Camp out bubble

While most of the P.M.’s quarterly press conference laid out hard times for the people, there was one moment at the end of the press conference when Barrow paused to make mention of an incident, which he felt was a footnote worth mentioning. Last week, the Committee Organized for Liberty Through Action, COLA, camped out in front of the P.M.’s office as part as their awareness campaign with drilling and exploration for oil. The P.M. went at pains to explain that the campers had no impact on recent decisions he made. Barrow said he did not want to burst COLA’s sparkling bubble but he did just that.

“In response to a letter I had received from Misses Matura Shepherd, Oceana’s representative in Belize asking that we do not give back out the offshore concession that OPIC, the Taiwanese, relinquished. Cabinet in fact looked at the issue and accepted that we should undertake not to re-award that concession. I see the people who had their campout not too far from the administration building in Belmopan claimed victory. Well that’s alright; nobody wants to burst their bubble. Miss Ramos, they camped out I think on the Tuesday the Cabinet made the decision—Miss Ramos who interviewed me for the Amandala from the Thursday before, will tell you that I indicated to her that we would subject only to Cabinet, we would in fact in response to Oceana, undertake not to give back out the concession. So there is a little bit of a difficulty with timing where COLA is concerned. But as I say, in the sense that it is perhaps a victory for all the environmentalists, let COLA have its share of the victory.”

  1. Common Sens says:

    Arrogant, boastful dictator.

Sadly there is no alternative to this UDP crowd.

Inshallah, someone with humility, dignity and intelligence will stand up. In the meanwhile we will continually be on a cycle of corruption and greed from the established political “parties”.

Barrow uttered that statement as if though the COLA’S demonstrations were bad or negative! These people are simply standing up for a legitimate cause, one that may have a significant impact on tourism and those whose very livelihood depends on the ocean or sea. Barrow is just being completely selfish in this sense but again people…we are the ones who put them where they are and we are also be the ones who will kick them off their high horses when we reach our capacity!
