Convicted murderer and escapee believed to be fleeing with wife

Miguel matus

Convicted murderer twenty-three year old Miguel Matus has been on the run since escaping from custody on Thursday of last week.  While there are indications that his flight was orchestrated Belize City Police are yet to determine if there was collusion on the part of the prison officer that was along with him.  It is believed however, that Matus is being aided by his wife, Thelma Matus, and that they are fleeing south into Honduras.  Police press officer Fitzroy Yearwood told us today that they are investigating the matter and have notified their counterparts in Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras.

Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer

Fitzroy Yearwood

“Initially in my press release I stated that he was being escorted to a dentist on Newtown Barracks and well after receiving the report from the prison officer that was escorting him he got into a grey Mitsubishi car that just slowed down in front of them and he just ran to the vehicle [and] hopped in.  I think it was a planned escape.  Whether or not it’s collusion I cannot say because we’re still investigating but we have sent out photos of Miguel Matus.  We believe that he’s traveling with his wife and we believe that they are trying to reach Honduras.  So we are asking all immigration officers for his dental appointment.”

Matus was convicted of the execution style murder of Priscilla Tzib in the village of Cristo Rey in Cayo in 2006.

This second story is worse than the first. Why isn’t a MURDERER handcuffed when he is traveling in a vehicle?

If the wife is assisting this murderer she should be punished harshly when captured along with the killer. Unless she is being held prisoner, or she is just standing by her man like the good /bad wife.
I hope the bulletin across the borders made it on time for a quick arrest.

So do these criminal scumbags pay for their own dental work at a private dental clinic or does that come out of our taxes?

  4. spanglish says:

we need to see a photo of the wife if possible!!!

  5. rudeand says:

Where is the officer who was with this inmate. He should be fired immediately. What incompetence.
Why don’t we have a dentist visit the prison and conduct a clinic. That would reduce the chances of escapes. We need to have these officers trained properly and face serious penalties when these incidents occur.

  6. shy says:

The wife needs to realize that it’s only a matter of time before he does it to her. I find it unbelievable that we the tax papers have to pay for these men to get dental check ups when law abiding citizens cant even afford that themselves!

  7. Proud Belizean says:

This is sick…I do two jobs and find it hard to afford a dental checkup and here we are with a murderer getting dental checkups more than likely at the cost of taxpayers…..shame on authorities….

  8. Sugar says:

Its my humble opinion that GOB should take over the prison….too much fool happening under the Kolbe name…..people are sent to prison because they deserve it… human-rights shud apply there…they GAVE UP that right when they killed/murdered. Mr kolbe shud understand that they are not sent to prison to be learn to sing and pray…..put their lazy bum to work…and work haad….poor people can barely afford government hospital fu dentist, and these gud-fu-nuttin get to see private dentist

Who the hell are responsible for training these folks in Law Enforcement and the penal system? This prisoner is what is known as maximum risk inmate, and when its necessary to transport him out side the walls of the prison, he was to have handcuff with his hands behind his back to render him incapable if having much leverage to resist The accompanying officer should have a hand on him at all times by holding the handcuff to prevent the prisoner from falling since the person does not have the use of the hands to keep proper balance. When in the public no one should be allow to come near the prisoner. As a matter of precaution the prisoner should not know in advance when an out side visit will take place to avoid any pre planning by colleague on the out side to set up any assistance for an escape.High risk prisoner should be escorted by two officers when outside the confine of the prison facility.

This was an obvious, planned escape. That officer was paid!!! The officer should be terminated immediately, because, upon an investigation of the officer, it will be evident that he was a part of the plot. I agee we mbelizians cawh affod fee see the dentist, but wah murdara could. Weh dis life de ge to. God help we. Peace out belezians. One love.
