Former employees of bus tycoons, David and Tony Novelo, want to be paid

Today a few of the employees of the now defunct National Transport Company Limited returned to the Labour office in Belize City to once again pursue their case.  The men are part of a bigger group of two hundred and seventy five that were fired in December of 2010 by the receivers who took over the company from the previous owners, David and Tony Novelo.  Since then, the ones we spoke with say they have received only two weeks salary.  Many of the employees have worked with the company for years and today, two of them told us that they just want their money they say is due them.

Francisco Flores

“We wanted to know when we will be paid right and they are saying they are just waiting for a response from the receiver.  This is just a matter of time for the process to take its course.  That’s what we’re waiting for right now.  I mean, lotta these guys out here with me right now have been with the company for some while too and to know the exact date to I can’t really say noh, but we waiting for that response from the receiver.  We got two weeks pay before Christmas, that was when the receiver came in but we are waiting for our final pay. We need to move on.”

“The point is dehn done fire we already, and dah dehn fire we, it’s not the Novelo’s that fire we, so we di expect fi we money now. Dah just the same way when dehn fire we, dah di same way we feel, bad.”

Meanwhile, Labour Commissioner, Ivan Williams, says that the Labour Department continues to try to solve the issue and clarified that the information provided to us by a former employee of National Transport last Friday that the Department was going to pay all two hundred and seventy five men was not accurate.

What are we missing here? Novelos in essence fired you by failing to meet their obligation to the bank & going into receivership. That was their fault. Cut the crap & you guys get together & sue them if necessary. Stop enabling them & parading on TV talking nonsense, bankrupt companies cannot give you severance pay & the bank is already losing money from this scam & you the bank customers will have to cover their loss.

Like BZNinCALI says….Sue Novelos via Class Action suit for loses and court cost and personal expenses incurred for this action and put liens on their properties! That is the only way to deal with CROOKS.
    Do it and stop talking,

Bus Tycoons? Yes, they got millions from us taxpayers, and nobody yet has been made responsible. But as for their ability to run a bath. let alone a bus company – Bus Buffoons would be more apt!

Not one person yet has publically questioned their motives or morality over their not offering to help the ex-employers, who lost their jobs because of them! PUP haven’t said much, only that somehow it’s the current governments fault! Why is that, these boys got campaign funds stashed away in offcshore accounts, ready for donating to the PUP in 2013???? If so, that’s OUR money, and we should get it back, plus all legal fees, so far, wasted in their attempts to legitamise their greed, corruption and heartlessness!!! I bet they had a lovely Festive Season, thank you very much, while their ex-workers suffered!!!!! Not a word came from them, note a single penny to help their people. They were flushed down the drain, so the Novello brothers could have a good time.
