Poetry festival set for Saturday night

Story PictureIt’s called “Lik It” and according to poet Kalilah Enriquez, you’ll like it.

Kalilah Enriquez, Exec. Member, Belize Writers & Poets Society
“Well it’s this Saturday night, it’s at the Bliss and it’s going to be featuring some of the most exciting performers; poets around today. We have poets like Adele Ramos, Edward Broaster, myself and these are the ones that are know to the public already but we also have quite a few new poets who are coming on the scene. And I am personally very excited to see women like Ivory Kelly and Ixchel Pot, both currently based in Belmopan, hit the stage and get people excited about poetry. Also, what we have and what we’re doing it we’re trying to incorporate different forms of art into poetry. We’re having our poets incorporate music, incorporate dance, drama and that sort of thing to make it just a bit more interesting for the big stage at the Bliss.”

Stewart Krohn
“Now Kalilah, we know that there’s a certain circle of people that are really into poetry and no doubt they will be there, they will be among the performers. But why should your average viewer out there, who really isn’t that much into poetry, why should they get turned on by what you’re doing this weekend?”

Kalilah Enriquez
“Because they’re gonna have a great time. I guarantee it and in addition to poetry, I must say that Jazel Pascasio, who you’re familiar with—she did very well in your KTV—is gonna be performing at Lik It as well. We’re also going to be having the Sambai Drummers and Dancers from Galespoint and then the poets themselves will be incorporating these various artistic endeavours in their poetry and will have different guest performers along with them. So it’s not just poetry that they’re going to be seeing but they’re going to be having this experience of a lifetime.”

Tickets are ten dollars at the Bliss box office, Tambran Music, Record Shack and CY’s.
