BCB Holdings and Belize Bank comment on Supreme Court award of over $43 Million

In other news, BCB Holdings and the Belize Bank today reacted to a major victory against government, in which Justice John Muria enforced an award of over forty-three million dollars from a settlement deed signed in 2005. That judgment was handed down within days of the Christmas and today, the BCB’s Chief Executive Officer, Lyndon Guiseppi, said that (quote) “We are very pleased that the Supreme Court confirmed the position we have always taken and has ruled that international arbitrators are binding on the government and that they can be enforced in Belize.” (Unquote) The London Court of International Arbitration issued the award in August 2009, but government did not attend the arbitration and the case was then heard in the local courts.
