Viewers to either demolish or repair the Belize City Center

By now you would know that the City Center has been condemned as unsafe to accommodate mass events. The building was not maintained over the years and has deteriorated to the point where structural damages make the facility a dangerous place. So we asked the public their views on whether it should be demolished or repaired. Sixty-six percent of those who polled said the City Center should be demolished while thirty-four percent thought it should be repaired. One viewer commented: “Rebuild it and make sure it meets international safety standards and that the work is supervised by an honest, competent project manager so we’re not having this conversation again in ten years.’’

That city center has been an eye sore, no design just a square box and the contractor who built it made mega bucks, he should now pay for the demolition and then get someone else to do some good architecture and get a new building. The location right now is great, easy access.

I guess maintenance was not in the budget for that building ah? wonder what the city council did with all the money that was collected for the use of the building over the years, sounds just like the Belize government taxation without representation just collect the money and put it in your pockets and hope we will get enough donations to run the country and the people won’t know what we are doing and won’t make a fuss about it. Guess this would be a good opportunity for someone with some money to construct a decent venue for all the activity that occurs in the city come on rich Belizeans get up off that money, maybe you can even buy the land from government since obviously they don’t know how to upkeep anything. I just hope that the building has already paid for itself and that taxpayers will not be footing the bill for government’s inadequacies.
