Omar Woodye gets 12 charges for conning businessman
A Camalote Villager finds himself in all kinds of trouble with the law after he was formally arraigned on several indictable charges. Omar Woodye is charged with ten counts of obtaining property by deception, one count of forgery and one count of uttering a false document. The charges follow a report by Zhi Yiang Zhang who told police that Woodye passed himself over as the Manager of the Reconstruction and Development or Recondev. Zhi said that Woodye offered to sell him a piece of land worth thirty seven thousand dollars, and showed him a document purportedly showing the parcel of land and a forged letter from Recondev. Zhi says the incident occurred in April while he was at the Recondev office in Belmopan and that he paid Woodye a deposit of fifteen thousand dollars towards the land. But on May twenty-ninth when Zhi met with the real General Manager of Recondev, Peter August, he learned that Recondev had not issued any letter on the land. Woodye was offered bail of seven thousand dollars in the Belmopan Magistrate’s Court and was ordered to reappear on August seventeenth.
