Fuel prices go down to record lows

Story PictureOver the past few months the price of fuel at the pump has experienced two significant decreases and at midnight last night, the prices of regular and premium have plummeted even further and reached a milestone below five dollars. Premium or Super gasoline has dropped from six dollars and sixteen cents to four dollars and eighty five cents. Regular gasoline has dropped from five dollars and seventy four cents to four dollars and fifty five cents. And though diesel remains constant at six dollars and thirteen cents, consumers are very happy for the good news at the end of a year of economic hardship. News Five Jose Sanchez, stopped by Shell One Stop at the corner of Central American Boulevard and spoke to some happy patrons.

Gas Attendant, Shell Onestop
“Super was six-sixteen and it went to five-seventy-four and it went to four-fifty-five.”

Jose Sanchez
“And diesel?”

Gas Attendant
“Diesel, same price six-thirteen.”

Jose Sanchez
“When did this price change happen?”

Gas Attendant
“Twelve o’clock last night.”

Jose Sanchez
“Were you given any reason if this is just a promotion, is this a permanent price? Did they tell you anything?”

Gas Attendant
“I can’t tell you.”

Jose Sanchez
“How you feel that gas gone down to four change?”

Consumer #1
“Bwai, ih good fi me because dis vehicle weh I got yah and I always travel pan di road so ih good.”

Jose Sanchez
“How much cylinder yoh have?”

Consumer #1
“dis vehicle dah wah eight cylinder but ih do good pan gas even when di prices mi deh way up. I still like it better now, everybody like it better now yoh understand mi?”

Consumer #2
“I feel more comfortable now, feel like now everything good to go. I could go bout more often, could travel more, everything cool like how gas gone down.”

Consumer #3
“Well, fi me dah wah big privilege because all dehn time when yoh mi di spend like ova eleven dollars a gallon and di travel everyday, ih save yoh big pan yoh pocket right.”

Jose Sanchez
“Can you even remember when gas was at four change?”

Consumer #3
“Mussy bout fifteen years ago I woulda seh. I noh think gas mussy four change dah Belize yet.”

Jose Sanchez
“So I’d assume yoh woulda hope ih last long.”

Consumer #3
“I woulda hope ih stay dah way deh mein. I really hope ih stay deh. Ih woulda benefit all Belizean and poor people and taxi man and everybody wah could survive better.”

Though consumers are celebrating the low prices, there are reports in the fuel industry that the price may go up a month from now and perhaps even tomorrow.
