“I believe that we should be proud of having secured over two hundred and sixty thousand acres of tropical moist forest and we now own that and we?re now managing that for the people of Belize. Also we have probably about eighty persons working with us on a full time basis. That number goes up from time to time with additional staff that comes in. I think that’s also very good especially for the region in which the Rio Bravo Conservation Management, Conservation and Management Area is situated. We also bring to this country through grants for projects and other activities, in excess of one million U.S. dollars every year and that is a significant amount of money.”

Other activities planned for the Environmental Awareness Month include lectures and competitions for students, exhibitions and radio programs. The theme for the celebration is: Programme For Belize – Linking Conservation and Development.
