Not everyone today was caught up in the last minute rush of electoral politics. Arreini Palacio found some relief… in the judicial system.

“Women expressing themselves through art,” is the theme under which BOWAND is holding the Women in Art exhibition. The display, which runs from August twenty-six through to September third, was opened in ribbon cutting ceremonies this afternoon and features the artistic talents of Lita Krohn, Pamela Lockwood-Braun, Walker Marchal and Sandra March. According to BOWAND’s Coordinator, Gaynor Ferguson Palacio, the exhibition will brighten up the Family Court.

“It gives us the opportunity to work with the female artists to try and help them to get an opportunity to display their work. Many times we would hear of art exhibitions being on display but those exhibitions would mainly be by male artists. So this is that opportunity to give to them and in return, they share their art with us and the general public.”

Q: “Why have it in the Family Court this year?”

Gaynor Ferguson Palacio

“From the time we have been holding the art exhibition we have been using the Belisle Art Gallery and before that the Bliss Institute to be the venue for the show. But in talking with the artists we found out that there was only a sector of people that was benefiting from the art exhibition. And so to broaden the horizon of the artists and give them the opportunity to show their art to more people and different sectors of people, who may not necessarily have the opportunity of finding the time to go to the previous venue, so we decided on the Family Court.”

All the artists donated their pieces to the Family Court. Arreini Palacio for News Five.

The exhibition is open weekdays from eight a.m. to five p.m.
