Warren Cabral still held after 8 days

Police have turned up the heat in the Samantha Gordon murder investigation, and it appears that one of their suspects may still be in custody although the seventy two-hour period allowed by the law has more than elapsed. The attorney for Warren Cabral, told News Five this evening that after 8 days of detention Cabral has still not been charged for any crime. Simeon Sampson, who is also the President of the Belize Human Rights Commission says it is an outrage when police can hold any individual for such a lengthy period of time. Sampson who spoke to News Five from the Raccoon Street Police Station says he was told at least three other men have also been picked up in relation to the Gordon case and are being held at the Ladyville Police Station. Head of the investigation Eli Salazar was not available for comment on Cabral’s detention or to confirm that other suspects are in custody. Warren Cabral’s Mother in Law Marcia Lemmott told News Five today that although he was taken in for questioning on Monday June 21st, his wife and attorney were not allowed to speak to him until today. Lemmott alleges that the police have moved Cabral to a variety of locations, including the police station in Pomona, Stann Creek. Yesterday a friend of Samantha Gordon, 17 year old Ann Bradley, told News Five that she was also asked to come into the C.I.B. office last week and was held for several days without access to her attorney. She says although she was not with Gordon the night she disappeared and does not have any information on the murder, police have picked her up several times before and held her for days at a time. A.I.P. Alvarez says Bradley is not a suspect but they believe she may be able to “assist in the investigation”. On Sunday, November eighth Samantha Gordon’s body was found in the sea near Vista Del Mar. The 15 year old was last seen at a basketball game the previous Friday night.
