Child’s mom cuts deal but accused molester still charged

Story Picture
Contrary to reports this week that child molestation charges have been dropped against former S.J.C. teacher Carlos Milan, the case is still before the courts. Although the child’s mother, who is living with Milan, has submitted an affidavit requesting that the charges be withdrawn, the Magistrate’s Court tells News Five that the matter will have to be taken to the Director of Public Prosecutions and that the case has been adjourned until October 5th. The D.P.P.’s office says they have yet to receive anything on the matter and as far as they know the case is still on. Although the seven year old child’s mother may be standing by her man, the little girl’s grandmother is refusing to give up and has been advised by police that since the May 4th incident occurred at her home she may be able to pursue the matter on that basis. Family members told News Five they are not certain at this time what they will do if the charges are withdrawn based on the mother’s affidavit. The child is currently residing with her grandmother. Milan was granted bail on May 20th, but with the condition that he not contact the minor. The child’s mother had reported to police on May 4th that a student from U.C.B. who was boarding at the grandmother’s house walked in on Milan when he was with the child. Police say the seven year old told them it was not the first time she had been molested. A medical examination confirmed she showed signs of sexual abuse. Milan has been charged with attempted rape and the indecent assault of a minor.
