Simulated fire exercise goes well

Story Picture
For the second time this year, the Belize Fire Service held a simulated fire exercise in a congested area of Belize City. This time the “fire” was at forty-two Wagner’s Lane. Operations Manager Ted Smith says the Department was more than satisfied by the work of the firefighters.

Ted Smith, Operations Manager

“It is always crucial when the first team goes out in the initial deployments to set down some of the basic things. One of them we call the three-prong attack: to attack the scene of the fire, to attack the exposure and to attack the avenue of fire spread. If you don’t have these in place in the initial response then you start off on the wrong foot; you are bound to fail. That was in place. Water coming from the canal was done in a satisfactory manner; it didn’t take a lot of time. We will continue to try to improve but overall I am satisfied.”

The next fire drill will be held on November tenth. The new trainees, including female firefighter Dativa Chacon, were a part of today’s exercise.
