Today the Belize National Football Association announced that the contract of the coach of the Belize National A team and the Under twenty-three football team, Manuel Bilches has been renewed for another year. In a press conference at it’s headquarters this morning, the association announced that despite the track record of the team and public sentiments, they see Bilches as the best person to develop the talent of Belizean football players.

Bertie Chimilio, President, B.N.F.A.

“After reviewing the performance of the national team, after consulting with everyone involved, the national program has decided that if our long-term goals are to be reached then we need to continue working with our national coach, Mr. Manuel Bilches.

Everyone wants a winning team. Everybody would like to see our national team be recognized regionally and internationally. However, for this to happen it will have to be through a well planned and systematic way of working which will entail firm commitment and cooperation by all involved especially players to discipline and respect for a program.”

The Belize National Team has lost all their official international matches so far but hope to make a strong showing at the 2002 WorldCup eliminations, slated for early next year. Manuel Bilches began coaching the Belize National Team in January, 1999.
