Pine Ridge fire under control

A forest fire that raged in the Mountain Pine Ridge area of the Cayo District since last Saturday has been brought under control. It is not known what caused the blaze, but it is estimated to have spread over 6,000 acres. According to Tim Godoy, District Forest Officer, fire fighters from the Forest Department, aided by workers and equipment from the Bull Run Overseas Corporation, Janus Foundation and the Pine Lumber Company are now conducting mopping up operations. Some 50 fire fighters using bulldozers and Caterpillar tractors battled the blaze. The fire at one time threatened the Hidden Valley Inn, but is now being contained at the boundary line between Bull Run and the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve. Motorists are advised that there is still smoke affecting visibility in the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve and they should exercise caution.
