Another merchant conned with fake Bowen & Bowen cheques

The search continues for approximately four men who police say continue to scam businesses out of household appliances with fake Bowen and Bowen cheques. We say about four because it is not certain if it is actually four different people carrying out the deed or just a couple of them using four different names. Since early March, the names that have surfaced in the news are: Kenneth Jones, Sylvin Bodden, Renickle Hemmans, and Denmark Murrillo for having passed over fraudulent cheques in exchange for items ranging from stereo systems to TV’s. Police seem to be having a difficult time trying to nab the person or persons using the forged cheques. This evening, Bowen and Bowen told News Five that the cheques the con artists are using are from books, which closely resemble their authentic cheques which the company uses to pay salaries, complete with the identical logo. But the forged cheques bear the wrong signatures and Bowen and Bowen advises merchants and store owners against cashing any such cheques unless they know for sure that the person is indeed employed with Bowen and Bowen. What the crooks have been doing is taking the fake payroll cheques and conning merchants into cashing the forged document after they have fraudulently purchased an item from the store. The merchant would then give the difference in change to the conman, along with the item he illegally bought. The most recent victim is Vishal Ameshwar, who operates S.P. Home Depot at the foot of the Swing Bridge in Belize City. Ameshwar reported to police that he tried to deposit a cheque made out to Sylvin Bodden for a stereo worth five hundred and twenty-seven dollars which the crook conned from him in exchange for the no-good cheque.
