Bodybuilders compete for championship

Story Picture
Good evening I’m James Adderly and you’re strapped in for another ride on Sports Monday. The bodybuilding community presented the annual Mr. Belize bodybuilding contest Saturday night at the Holy Redeemer Parish Hall. And as you can see folks, the sport has brought back the many fans.

In the novice class Edwin Ramirez of San Pedro in a head a collision with Fitzgerald Davis proved to be a better overall package and takes top honours. However, Ramirez wasn’t about to be satisfied, so he stepped up to the “Jr. A” class against Mark Roches, Francis Lizama and Kenrick Ferguson.

Take a quick look at the individual posing people as all contestants make a move at the title. But the judges were taken in again by the San Pedrano Edwin Ramirez, who grabs his second title of the night.

In the meantime let’s check out a little of this fitness routine, a Lurdette Sankey, who obviously is in a class by herself. Even the masters came out tonight and here are Frank Lizama, Joseph McClaren and Guy Neal competing at this class. Former Mr. Belize fifty-one year old McClaren still looks good, but has to settle for third. Frank Lizama might have needed a little more work; he had to accept the runner-up slot. But the winner is Guy Neal and obviously he deserves it and we say congrats.

Meanwhile folks these six athletes all want to wear the coveted Mr. Belize title with Rushiel Bevans out of action due to a suspension. But only one can achieve that honour and as you can see the competition is keen.

After the judges reached their decision Deon Danderson gets fourth place. Roger Sutherland did enough to earn third place. You remember Ramirez, well here he is looking for a third straight win, but amongst the big boys this show is only good enough for second place, of course from his perspective, two out of three ain’t bad.

Nevertheless, the routine that brings top honours comes from Gilroy Nembhard, who has been around sometime now and indeed this athlete has made tremendous strides for which the judges made Mr. Belize 2000 and we say congrats.

Turning to football news, Metro Stars and Toledo Mavericks battle to a three all stalemate at the MCC Grounds yesterday. Metro now finds itself tied at seven points with Belmopan Caribbean for the fourth and final berth in the BNFA National First Division Season. Already qualified are Yabra and Laxojumez from Orange Walk from group one and Grigaconquerers the divisional winner from group two. As soon as we find out who fills this final berth, certainly we’ll pass it on to you. Meanwhile, still no word on the performance of the National Male and Female Volleyball Team inside El Salvador, over there this weekend for the Senior Championships.

Also it’s an exciting time for Belizean softball as both teams are now enroute to Mexico, where the National Male Team will be at Hermosilla in action trying to get a qualification for Belize to the 2002 Central American and Caribbean Games. Our female team will be at Monterrey, Mexico and certainly we hope that they will be able to qualify us to this tournament where we got gold in the 70′s we did not qualify in the 80′s and now it’s 2000 and time for us to refine what we needed to go all the way in this particular tournament, we certainly want to wish them maximum success.
