Victims of Hurricane Keith stand to benefit from forty-five thousand dollars worth of food and supplies donated to the Belize Red Cross Society. The managing director of Santiago Castillo’s group of companies Anuar Flores today presented the food certificate to Red Cross president Eamon Courtenay.

“We will be clearing the containers and from the warehouse of Santiago Castillo and distributing them in our effort in the Belize Rural area as well as in the Orange Walk District.”

“The Comfort diapers are important. There is a strong and consistent need and we will be distributing that accordingly. As you know, we distribute it on a need basis, people have to be in need and we have to account for it. So as we move through the Belize Rural and Orange Walk, we will be meeting the needs of the people in those areas. This is an excellent gesture from Santiago Castillo and we are more than pleased to receive it.”

“A number of NGOs, government, civil society groups and individuals from across Belize as well as those internationally have responded. We put the figure now at over two million dollars and it’s not enough because even though the water is going down, in some places the work for the Red Cross starts.”

“We distributed three packages and they represent documents, goods to be picked up at our warehouses and a set of documents representing a container that is sitting at the port. We had our Customs Department do all the customs work to clear it; they just have to get it. That container was donated by Nabisco, they are the makers of biscuits and chips, and they have donated a full container load of chips towards this relief. Santiago Castillo Limited also has lobbied with J. Wray and Nephew, they are the makers of Appleton Rum and they have donated ten thousand dollars worth of a variety of products which will be picked up from our warehouses.”

“Santiago Castillo Limited, on the heels of just recently doing a tremendous effort, the staff has come together to donate fifty thousand dollars worth of products. We have answered a call to donate diapers because we were told there was a great need for that. So as agent representatives for Comfort diapers, we thought we should make this gesture, as so we’ve donated ten thousand dollars worth of diapers as well.”

Flores told News Five that the Santiago Group of Companies will next week be making another donation of an assessment of food products courtesy of the many international companies they represent.
