Int’l food fest scheduled for Saturday

Story Picture
It will cost the restoration committee over half a million dollars to finish repairing the St. John’s Cathedral. So far, approximately one hundred and twenty thousand dollars have been spent mending the roof alone. On Saturday, the group hopes to raise more money for the project through one of its main fund raising drives, an international food fest. Restoration Committee member, Beverley Brown is asking the public to come out and support the restoration of the oldest cathedral in Central America.

Beverley Brown, Member, St. John’s Restoration Committee

“As you know over the years it has deteriorated and we have been raising funds and right now we have finished the roof and I am very happy to say that the roof has been completed, but there is a lot of work that still has to be done. The inner walls have to be done over even the outer walls, the bricks need to be preserve. Its a long process, it will be an ongoing process and so the restoration will not be finished in a day or in a year. We are hoping that by having this food fest annually we will continue to help restore the cathedral with other fund raisers as well but this is the main one.”

“Presently services are being conducted at the Bishop Memorial Centre when should we expect to see services resume at the cathedral?”

Beverley Brown

“Well we are hoping to go back in December, in fact Advent Sunday.”

The international food fest gets underway at 11:00 Saturday morning on the grounds of the Anglican Cathedral College. This is the fifth year the festival is being held.
