Faber Says U.D.P. Executive to Meet in Days Ahead

Patrick Faber

Faber’s intention to one day lead the United Democratic Party and the country is no secret.  But he also says that the prime minister’s choice to remain in office for the remainder of his third term does not breach any rule that the party has set.

Patrick Faber, Acting Prime Minister

“I want to make it clear, when the prime minister indicated that he was going to leave earlier, obviously you all know of my ambition to lead, the gates were opened.  It was not out of any haste or interest to see the prime minister depart prematurely, it was out of the fact that he made the decision that he was going to leave and naturally that was something that I aspire towards.  So the gates were open and we started off with the race, so to speak, but it does not in any way change my ambition or hampers what will continue to be my goal of leading the United Democratic Party.  I believe those in the Cabinet had their discussion.  You know that in fact the decisions party-wise are made not by the Cabinet but by the national party council and I believe we are having a meeting of the national party council coming up, I think it is next week Saturday.  The central executive of the party will meet next week as well.  So these are the official decision making bodies of the party and while the Cabinet can make a recommendation, it is only when these bodies meet that these decisions are finalized.  So we’re looking forward to those meetings.”

According to Faber, the leadership convention of the U.D.P. is tentatively set for January 2020, which is also general election year.
