Former ComPol Whylie Rains on Chester Williams’ Installment Parade

A new Commissioner of Police was installed today at the Police Training Academy in Belmopan, and we’ll have that coming up. But the installation of Chester Williams was eclipsed by the parting shots by his predecessor.  Allen Whylie was among the many in attendance who converged on the parade square to welcome Williams as the new top cop of the Belize Police Department.  What should have been a cheerful swan song celebrating his achievements and applauding his successor, was instead a spew of bitterness during which the former commissioner admitted that he was abruptly placed on retirement with immediate effect as of January eighth.  Not only did Whylie thumb his nose at his many critics, he also took aim at the media, whom he says has led a vicious campaign to have him removed from office.  Whylie’s prolonged diatribe began with an explanation of how he was pushed out of his post.

Allen Whylie, Former Commissioner of Police

“As commissioner you develop friends, some who are genuine and others who want to be near you, to be near such an authoritative figure.  I can tell you that you also develop enemies for some unknown reasons.  Over the last two years I have experienced firsthand where there was an organized, sustained, coordinated and systematic attacks against myself as the Commissioner of Police via social media by persons who did not know me personally.  Attacks were also made by influential members of the opposition and also by some sectors of the media.  Whilst I have never responded to those attacks, as I was a member of a disciplined body and a public servant, as of January 9th, 2019, I have been retired and so I am free to speak and whatever I say can no longer be associated with the Belize Police Department.  I can say with all honest that those attacks did not faze me, they did not distract me from the task that was at hand which was to seek ways to improve the welfare of all members of the Belize Police Department, as well as to ensure and enhance the provision of services to ensure the safety and security of our citizenry.  To my surprise, I will say those persons ultimately achieved their objectives when on January 8th, 2019, I was called to a meeting and informed that I was being retired effective immediately.”
