Fire Guts House in Ladyville; was it Arson?

A fire has left one man without a house in Ladyville Village. The thirty by thirty wooden structure and all its contents were wiped out by the time fire officials arrived on the scene. But the quick response saved two other houses that are located nearby.  According to the house owner, a man known to his siblings went to the house calling out for someone and shortly after they saw him running away.  Fire officials say they are now looking at arson as a possible cause of the fire. Reporter Andrea Polanco tells us more in the following story.

A fire destroyed everything Levi Bahadur owned – only this pile of rubble remains where his wooden house once stood on Dove Street in Ladyville. Bahadur wasn’t at home when the fire started on Friday night sometime around eleven. One person was inside when the fire started but he escaped unhurt. According to Levi Bahdur, someone set his house on fire and today he recounts what he has found out about the blaze.

Andrea Polanco

Andrea Polanco

“And is he a person right here from the village?”

The fire almost destroyed a second house that is in the yard, but the quick action from fire-fighters they managed to contain the flames before it spread – leaving behind scorched wall, windows and a gate. A third house nearby also received minor damage. The national fire service confirmed that they are investigating the fire as a possible arson.

“On arrival on scene found was a wooden structure measuring twenty-by-twenty-five elevated approximately three feet off the ground engulfed in flames. On the same premises, to the front sat another wooden structure. As a result of the fire, the structure to the rear of the premise was destroyed and it wasn’t insured. The structure to the front of the premises had minor fire damage to its exposed face. A third concrete structure at number sixty-seven Dove Street received minor fire damage to its window pane and fascia board. The concrete structure was insured. Preliminary investigation reveals that the fire originated in the north-east bedroom of the structure. The information gathered from residents within the area indicated that a single person was seen leaving the structure just before the fire was discovered. The fire is being treated as an incendiary.”

The two-bedroom house was completely destroyed – and they were not able to save anything from inside. Bahadur says he needs some help to rebuild – and if you would like to assist, you can visit the family at number seventy eight Dove Street in Ladyville. Reporting for News Five, I’m Andrea Polanco.
