3 Officers Dismissed from the Department for Missing Cocaine

Chester Williams

On the issue of police misconduct, Williams also gave an update on the case of three officers, namely: Corporal Clinton Thomas and Police Constables Kishane Peck and Albert Augustine. All three officers, who were attached to the Special Branch Unit of the Department, were on interdiction pending the outcome of an internal investigation by the Professional Standards Branch after twenty-seven parcels of cocaine went missing back in April of 2017 in the Cayo District. They along with a fourth officer discovered the drugs, but it never made it to the police station and the cocaine disappeared.  The trio were fingered as the persons responsible and have since been dismissed from the Police Department. Acting ComPol Williams explains.

Chester Williams, Acting ComPol

“If you recall the three police officers who were charged with the cocaine that went missing. They went and searched a house in San Ignacio and they alleged found some drugs and the drugs never did reach the police station. You would recall that when I was at Professional Standards Branch, we had moved with that investigation and the three officers were placed on disciplinary charges for neglect of duties and act of prejudicial to the good order and discipline. The tribunal in respect of that matter concluded and the officers were convicted in the tribunal and the adjudicator has recommended their dismissal from the department. While the law do give the Commissioner the authority to dismiss, it says that the Commissioner must first consult the Solicitor General’s Office and so we have done that as well and we have received the Solicitor General’s response in respect to that matter last Friday and the SolGen has agreed that the dismissal of the officers is well within the scope of the law and that due process was followed. We have since moved and dismissed those three officers from the department.”
