Garry Yearwood Out on Ten Thousand Dollars Bail

Garry Yearwood

Thirty-nine-year-old Garry Yearwood is out on bail of ten thousand dollars after having been remanded on January fourth for aggravated assault.  This morning, the B.T.L. employee appeared before Justice Collin Williams where he applied for bail.  He is accused of brandishing a licensed firearm and making threats to his former common-law wife, thirty-one-year-old Royann Riverol.  It is alleged that Yearwood was followed to his Los Lagos house on New Year’s Day by Riverol and her family.  She reportedly hit the father of two and he is said to have reacted by drawing a handgun and uttering a threat.  Fearing for her life, Riverol proceeded to the Ladyville Police Station where a report was filed against Yearwood.  Yearwood, we note, is the younger brother of Inspector Fitzroy Yearwood.  When the Belize Communications Workers Union President subsequently visited the Ladyville Police Station to make a statement, he was instead taken into custody and later charged.  Since the alleged incident involved a firearm, Yearwood was arraigned and remanded to the Belize Central Prison.  Fitzroy Yearwood says the entire incident became an attack on his family since there is bad blood between senior members of the police department and himself.

“I made several calls to ask them to just investigate properly before you charge him because you will tarnish an innocent man’s reputation.  My calls fell on deaf ears and my brother was charged.  He’s at Kolbe right now, we’re trying to get him bail, anything that we can do to help him.  I feel like it’s my fault because we know the threats that were made against me by the hierarchy.  Sometimes I feel like quitting because I am the only Yearwood in twenty-three hundred police officers and I believe like my back is against the wall and this is evident after this vendetta against my brother and family.  I believe that I am being targeted.”
