Giovanni Jones Charged with the Murder of Howard Coleman

Giovanni Jones

There are updates on three other murders on New Year’s Day. Twenty-six-year-old Giovanni Jones was also charged with the murder of fifty-eight-year-old Howard Coleman.  Jones, a resident of the Lucky Strike Village, appeared before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford and remanded to prison until March twentieth. The sensational killing of the Coleman was the first murder of the New Year. According to police, between four and five that morning, Jones went to drop off a woman who was staying at Coleman’s house, but after he dropped her off he wanted to stay. The woman told him to leave and when he refused, Coleman intervened and told him that he had to go. This rejection didn’t sit well with Jones; he allegedly took hold of a machete and chopped Coleman to death. But what happened after was even more bizarre. Police say that the woman reported that Jones then raped her inside the home. The woman convinced Jones not to harm her and to report that someone else had attacked them. Around seven that morning they then visited the vice chairman’s house where the accused murderer made up a story. But police didn’t believe his conflicting version of what happened. We spoke with Allan Jones, who also happened to be the first on the scene, after he heard the story. Allan told News Five that the young woman never spoke about what happened.

“Both of them visited me but the young lady didn’t have anything to say.”

“Is this young lady in a relationship with Mr. Jones?”

Allan Jones

“That I am not too certain.”

“But they were friends – they knew each other?”

“I was told that they were hanging out prior to the New Year’s Eve night.”

Andrea Polanco

“Do you know if Mr. Howard was also socializing with them? Do you know if they were socializing at his house?”

Allan Jones

“During the interview with Giovanni, no they weren’t. Giovanni was hanging out somewhere in the village and went over to Howard’s house. Howard was alone, I believe, because if you see the photos, he is without shirt. I guess he was sleeping or about to sleep, something like that.”
