Missing & Presumed Dead; Where is Anisha “Annie” Young?

Anisha Young

The family of Anisha Young continues to hope for the best, but is bracing for the worse. Today, a search party was organized by her family and went looking for answers. Young disappeared on Sunday morning; she was at a night club after a work Christmas party and was seen getting into a taxi. But there is confirmation that she reacted to a post on social media at four that morning. No one has since heard from her which her family says is most unusual.  Her boyfriend is in custody, but is not cooperating with the police. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

“We hope she is alive, but the feeling that everyone is getting that she is dead. We just want to find her if she is alive; if she is dead, we just want to lay her to rest.”

Missing and presumed dead….hope dwindles with each passing day for the family and friends of Anisha Young as the Belize City young woman remains missing. Annie, as she is affectionately known, was last seen alive on Sunday morning as she left a popular nightclub on Newtown Barracks in the company of her boyfriend. Since then, she has not been seen or heard from and there have been conflicting information from the boyfriend, who is in police custody tonight.

“We got information that Anisha and her boyfriend left their work Christmas party on Saturday about one a.m. in the morning. They left the party and went to Sit and Sip. People say that they left from Sit and Sip in a taxi and they were dropped him. We don’t know how true it is. His story is that after they went home, he was so intoxicated, he fell asleep and she got up. Don’t know if she got a call, [but] she got up and left. When he wake up around eleven in the morning, she didn’t see Anisha and he didn’t contact any family member—probably he went back to sleep thinking that she was probably at her mom’s house. And later in the evening, he started to contact her friends claiming that he doesn’t know where she is. If Anisha would left home from her boyfriend, she would come to her mom’s house. And she’s not here and she’s not there. She’s not somebody that will go without contacting somebody from her family to say well I am in Orange Walk or so forth. She is not that kind of person and she didn’t show up to work yesterday so that’s when all eyebrows started to raise.”

Today, family and friends gathered at the home of Annie’s parents on Lindo’s Alley; they prayed for guidance before setting out in separate vehicles to search for their missing loved one. Their first stop was on Nargusta Street in south side Belize City. This is where Annie and her boyfriend lived for some time now. According to Sheree Salgado, the family has received information that the couple was embroiled in a quarrel on Sunday morning.

“Most of the family members saw a video on her story early that morning. We don’t know if she was trying to send us a message, but she placed a video on her story and after twenty-four hours it was automatically deleted. So we don’t know; we are just waiting and hoping for the best.”

“What was the content of that video? What about that video…”

Sharreth Hyde

“She just hold the video showing some guys in an SUV with her. But waht I saw is like she was partly weak and she is not that type of person. Like is she was in that vehicle with those guys, she would say okay well this one wasted or watch this one or something like that. That’s not her. She didn’t say anything. It’s lone body structure that I saw on the video.  So I feel like she was saying something to one of us to let us know that she’s in danger. That’s what we are hearing Duane. We heard that they had some quarrel after the Sit and Sip Club and we spoke to the taxi driver who claims that he dropped them home. That they indeed had some kind of argument in the taxi.”

The family further states that Annie’s uncle received a call on Sunday night in which he was told that they can find her body. They believe her body was disposed of somewhere along the Philip Goldson Highway.

“Her uncle said they he got a call from a private number. The person said you need to go and look for Annie. The person was trying to disguise his or her house. He said, “Go look for her where? And who is this?” And the person after repeating it twice, the person just hang up the phone.”

“Now talk to us about this search. How is it that you guys know where to search or where are you figuring that she could be?”

Sheree Salgado

“Well actually [sighs], we are getting information. We are not waiting on the police. We know by now that this is not something that she would do to say go. Today is Tuesday, she went missing from probably early Sunday morning, so we are not waiting on the police. We are getting up as a family and we are going to hit the streets and see; probably somebody saw something and the police are not reaching out to them. So we are getting up today and we’re going to do our own investigation as a family.”

Sharreth Hyde

“We are living in a serious time right now and you can’t even trust your own friends.”
