Still No Charges for Brenda Castellanos Murder

Brenda Castellanos

Police have been unable to charge any suspects for the murder of Brenda Castellanos. The twenty-five-year-old mother was mortally wounded last Thursday as she stood inside a yard on Bishop Martin Street in Santa Elena, Cayo. Her friend, Jennis August, was also injured in that shooting and has since been treated and released from the Western Regional Hospital.  While the Castellanos family is still perplexed as to why the women came under attack, today, police confirmed that the gunman was actually targeting a man who was inside the yard. That person escaped the barrage of bullets unleashed at the gathering, and ASP Alejandro Cowo says that it may have been as a result of a dispute one month ago at a nearby bar.

“Several persons have been interviewed; however, they are very reluctant to cooperate with the investigators.”

“Sir is this gang related?”

“It is what we believe is because of a dispute that occurred about a month ago, if I am not mistaken, in that same location at a bar, which we suspect led to this shooting. The intended target we suspect was inside of that yard when the shooting happened. We believe that the person who did the shooting was detained, however, that person had to be released because of the insufficient evidence up to now.”

Twelve expended shells and three slugs were recovered from the scene.
