Who Will Replace PM Barrow as Leader of the U.D.P.?

In early November, Martinez came out in support of Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte, who was considered the dark horse who would have gone head to head against DPM Patrick Faber and National Security Minister John Saldivar for the leadership. With a delay in the leadership fight, can Faber and Saldivar expect others to make a bid for the top spot?

“There will be a leader before the next general elections in 2020 and that new leader will take over after Mister Barrow leaves. So I don’t know what was the expectation, but there will be a leader—whether short or long-term, there would have been a leader anyway and there will still be a leader.”

“Sir any particular person that you are pushing to become the next leader of the U.D.P.? I know you said that you are stepping out, but who you would want to see as the next leader of the U.D.P.?”

Anthony ‘Boots’ Martinez

“Well, I don’t have no specific choice. The time will come and when that time come, I will make a decision as a member of the party and I think that we will go from there. But again, in terms of what will transpire in 2020, then also too there might be new people aspiring for the job too. So it is what it is.”
