Belize City Minor Shot in Belmopan

Joseph Myvett

Police say a sixteen-year-old boy suffering from gunshot injuries is hospitalized at the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan. The minor has shared conflicting reports about what led to his injuries and police have since placed him under guard at the hospital.  Police say the teenager, who is from Belize City, is being investigated for a possible connection to criminal activities in the Belmopan/Roaring Creek area. ACP Joseph Myvett shares more:

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“A sixteen-year-old minor visited the Western Regional Hospital with gunshot injuries to his left calf as well as his left heel. He gave several different accounts on how he was shot. The first is that he was shot while at the vicinity of the National Bank at the entrance of Belmopan City. On a secondary interview he reported that he was shot somewhere in Roaring Creek Village. This sixteen year old minor is of a Belize City address and he is detained under police guard at the Western Regional Hospital.”

“The gunshot injuries, is it consistent with one shot?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“It is two shots.”

“Do you believe that he may be related to any of the incidents in the area?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“That is a part of the investigation as well he is of a Belize City address and could not give account of where he was exactly shot in Roaring Creek and those persons whom he claimed to have been with him in Roaring Creek, he could not identify them.”
