A San Pedro woman is also spending her first night behind bars at the Central Prison in Hattieville. She was arraigned on Monday afternoon for the charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the May thirteenth, 2018 killing of American restaurateur, Lamont “Monty” Lipka. The businessman from Texas, U.S.A. was inside Tropicana Bar & Grill on Coconut Drive when around nine-thirty p.m., a man walked in and fired a barrage a bullets at him, six of which caught him on the face and neck. Even as Monty was on the ground, the gunman stood over him and fired additional bullets before escaping through the rear of the restaurant. A day later, the investigation led officers to a hotel room where three persons including twenty-one-year-old Tracey Betancourt were found. But six months later, police say that they have evidence that suggests that Betancourt is the mastermind behind the calculated hit on Monty.  She was formally arrested and charged on Sunday. At its weekly press briefing, ASP Alejandro Cowo told News Five that police are looking for another person in connection with this homicide.

“The investigation is still ongoing. We had questioned several persons in the past. We are in the process of questioning them again. We know definitely of a male person that we are looking [for].”

Back in May, a search of the hotel room led to the discovery of seven live nine-millimetre rounds for which eighteen-year-old John Carlos Hernandez pleaded guilty and was fined two thousand five hundred dollars. Also in the room were Betancourt and Leon Walford.
