Manuel Espinosa Drowned in the Haulover Creek

Wilfredo Ferrufino

The lifeless body of Manuel Espinosa was retrieved from the Haulover Creek last weekend.  While it is the name given to him by others who know him, investigators are trying to confirm that identity with members of his family.  A post mortem conducted on his body on Wednesday, indicates that Espinosa died of drowning.

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino, C.I.B., Belize City

“There was the body of an individual, a male person who was discovered in the Belize River on the twenty-seventh of October.  On the thirty-first, a post mortem examination was conducted on the body of, we will refer to him as John Doe or Manuel Espinosa, as we have not confirmed his identity in full, as yet.  At the conclusion, the cause of death by the doctor has been confirmed as asphyxia, inhalation of fluids consistent with drowning.  So we are treating that as a drowning incident.”

“What are police trying to do to determine the identity of this victim?”

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino

“Well, we have taken measures, we have been asking persons in the area if they recognize or know the individual and from there we will try to identify or try to track any family members to confirm his identity.”
