Impressive Statistics for Tourist Arrivals

The Belize Tourism Board has released impressive statistics for tourist arrivals up to the third quarter of 2018.  Since the beginning of the year, there have been over three hundred and seventy-two thousand overnight tourists arriving in the Jewel; this is a sixteen point six percent increase over 2017. Director of Marketing and Industry Relations, Karen Pike says that by the end of the year, it is hoped that a half a million persons would have spent at least an overnight in Belize. As it relates to cruise ship arrivals, the figures have almost doubled in the last three months, leading to an overall increase of nineteen point nine percent since the start of the year. Pike say Belize is well on the way to exceeding the one million cruise ship tourist arrival mark again.

“The Cruise Director, Norika Gamero and the Director of Tourism, Karen Bevans have been actively working with the cruise lines over the last two years to get them to bring more ships to Belize, bring more cruise passengers to experience what we have. And it has paid off; all those discussions, all those meeting and the networking and all those cruise conferences that they’re attended have paid off. We are seeing the results and we expect to continue seeing those results going forward.”

“The overnight arrivals because we know getting more heads in beds that’s always a key point…”

“Yes, so that impacts our stakeholders more so—stakeholders such as hoteliers, tour guides. So definitely heads in beds make a difference to the economy and the tourism industry on a whole for Belize. We are looking at sixteen point six percent increase over last year so we are well on our way hopefully to hit the half million mark this year in overnight tourist but we are waiting to see how that pans out.”
