Cabinet Minister Says Economic Progress Made, But Not Enough

In other economic news, the International Monetary released its preliminary report on its findings on Belize’s economy last month. The IMF noted that the economy is strengthening but the I.M.F. is recommending that G.O.B. further cuts the nation’s debt and improves the business climate to encourage investment. Minister of State Responsible for Investment, Trade and Commerce Tracy Taeger-Panton told News Five, the country’s economy is not where it is should be.

“I think clearly we have made some progress. We certainly are not where we need to be as a country. We need to continue to work particularly where I am concerned in terms of the economic development of Belize. So we have to look at our trading relationships, how we expand on that and how we become a more productive sector. So we can have a better balance between our debt and what we use as production in Belize.”
