A Deadly Assault on the Brothers Trapp in Boca del Rio

Julian & Armando Trapp

There was a fatal shooting in San Pedro on Thursday night. Two brothers Julian and Armando Trapp were among a group of friends when they came under fire.  The Trapp brothers had just ordered food at a local restaurant on the island when they came under attack. Julian was hit many times and died inside the restaurant, while Armando survived the shooting. Months ago, Armando was shot as many as six times at his house. He also survived that shooting. News Five’s Isani Cayetano spoke to the Trapp family and files the following report.

A second attempt on the lives of Julian and Armando Trapp has left one dead and another with a gunshot wound to the right forearm.  A pair of gunmen blindsided the siblings at an establishment in the Boca del Rio area of San Pedro on Thursday night.  During the ambush they unleashed a barrage of gunfire, fatally injuring the younger of the two brothers.  Guadalupe Trapp learned of the deadly shooting sometime around eleven p.m.

“I wasn’t at home when this incident happened, right, and it was shocking for me when my daughter called me and said, “Dad, dehn shoot Julian.”  So I hurry come and find out and I went to the polyclinic and that’s when I learned that my son was dead, you know.  So that’s what I know about it, you know.  He was along with his girl and his brothers and other colleagues weh ih have noh.”

According to the family, three persons, including their loved ones, were together at La Choza Bar & Grill.  They had just placed an order of food and were having a few drinks while waiting to be served when gunfire erupted.

“We noh know why dehn do that to mi son and six months ago dehn shoot my son, my next son and nothing dehn do.  Police neva do nothing and sih this second one, ih gone and still police noh know da who do it, right.  I noh know.  Only people, dehn hate we, that da it, Trapp, you know, sohn people weh live soh, dehn hate we because we, we noh deh pan di street di beg, we noh deh all about.  My son work, my husband work.”

While both parents describe their children as hardworking men, something they are involved in may have triggered the deadly attack.  On April eighth, Armando Trapp was assailed and fired upon as many as six times by an unknown person.  Despite his injuries, he survived the armed assault.

“Police visited the polyclinic in San Pedro where they saw Armando Trapp, twenty-seven-year-old resident of San Pedro.  He lives in the DFC area of San Pedro Town.  He was seen with six gunshot wounds; one to the groin and several to the right and left thighs of his body.  Investigation so far has revealed that about 7:30 p.m. he went downstairs of his residence to retrieve his bicycle and in the process he heard several shots and realized that he was injured as a result of those gunshots.  One person has been detained.  No one has been arrested in regards to that matter.”

That was several months ago.  Following the latest incident, Armando was taken to the San Pedro Polyclinic where he was treated and released into police custody.

“I did talk to him when they took him to the police station, you know, and I asked the police officers why dehn have he hold up, right, and they said it’s just to keep him out of trouble out there.  Probably, they say, “you could be in a golf cart or you could be walking a next time and somebody will be there to may be shoot you, or I don’t know what they could do with you,” he said that’s the reason we have him hold up.”

According to Ana Trapp, the last time she saw Julian alive was around one o’clock on Thursday afternoon when he visited the family house in the San Juan neighborhood.

“Yesterday one o’clock dehn come ya, I cook rice and beans and fried fish and dehn come ya with me and then my son Julian tell me, “Ma, tek care, I gwein go tek wahn walk, I gwein da work he tell me, right, cause he work every day.”  I tell ahn yes hijo, I tell ahn good.  He gaan and from deh I noh sih ahn again.”

Revisiting the establishment this morning, a team of investigators paid keen attention to the crime scene, combing every detail, including bullet holes on the wooden bar.

Isani Cayetano

“Do you know why anybody would want your sons dead?”

Guadalupe Trapp

“Hmm, actually no.  I can’t say why, you know, because they are not kids that would say, “Dad, this is what’s happening with me or this is what dehn tell me or this is what dehn do me.”  Nothing like that.  They face their problems by themselves, you know, that’s it.  That’s why I don’t know what caused it.”
