State of Emergency Affected Tour Operators in the City

Yhony Rosado

The state of emergency on two south side neighbourhoods has expired and as you heard on Thursday night, several persons caught in the dragnet complained of being unlawfully detained. But today, the folks over at FECTAB claimed that the declaration hurt them in the tourism industry also because tourists were afraid to purchase tours and also because they work with the grassroots.

Yhony Rosado, President, FECTAB

“The state of emergency hurt us bad. We done barely have bookings and the lee bookings that we had cancelled on us because we are in a state of emergency. And the ship used that, don’t book with those other guys because you see what happen. Boom bam, bam. So the ship is carrying everything with the help of our government again. When they put a state of emergency…if I were to go to Maruba, Jamaica or anywhere and arrive there and they say they have a state of emergency, you think I will take a regular cab? I will take the number one cab, the number one operator because I want to reach where I am going. So when they put those things, we feel it hard and B.T.B. no even bother ask us. Our father in charge of us no even bother ask us. But you know why? Chukka is happy. We ker ten people dah cave; they ker twenty buses. And that is unfair for us; we’ve been here for too long.”

And barking and crying and hollering like this online is helping you? They see you fighting and pulling gun on vitalino and don’t want to take a risk with their lives- they think you are mentally unstable- do you blame the tourist?
