5 Minutes Later, Another Orange Walk Resident is Shot

Justin Diaz

Less than five minutes after the shooting of Samuel Castro, Orange Police responded to another shooting. This time the victim was twenty-three-year-old Justin Diaz. Diaz was at the corner of Sapodilla and Zericote Streets, when one of two men on motorcycles opened fire. While it is not known if the shooting of Diaz has any bearing on Castro’s demise, Diaz is reportedly an associate of the Back-a-Town Crips gang operating in Orange Walk Town. News Five’s Hipolito Novelo reports.

Twenty-three-year-old Justin Diaz is at the K.H.M.H. recuperating from gunshots wounds he received at around twelve thirty five on Sunday morning in Orange Walk Town. Diaz was at a relative’s house on Zericote when he decided to ride his bike home. As he curved into Sapodilla Street, two men on a motorcycle drove by, blasting several bullets in Diaz’s direction.

Voice of: Cousin of Justin Diaz

“When my cousin, the one who he was with, he told us that he heard the shots. They were together. Then he told my cousin that he was already sleepy, he will go home. My cousin told him to sleep there because it was already late already. The Friday night we already heard people walking in the yard. He told my cousin that he isn’t [Bleep} right here. So now he grabbed his bike and went. My cousin said that not even five minutes that they heard shots. That is when he ran out and he had already figured that my cousin got hurt. Then my next cousin ran and hollered that they shot your brother. He ran out and he saw my cousin with his phone in his hand. Police reached at the same moment and they took him to the hospital.

Diaz was shot twice to the chest, once to the lower abdomen and once to the foot. Investigators are trying to determine if his attempted murder is linked to the murder of Samuel Castro who was killed less than five minutes before by two men on a motorcycle.

“He apparently also received four gunshots injuries to his body. This matter as well is also being investigated as it also reported that two  persons on a motorcycle as well drove by and fired those shots which caught him.”

“Sir could you say with off the bat, do you believe that these were the same shooters?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“We do not know but we are looking into that as well at this time.”

Reporter

“Sir is Diaz known to be gang affiliated?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“At this time I would not want to say that until that is confirmed.”

Reporter

“And do you believe that these two shooting incidents are related?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“They could have been related but as I mentioned before this matter is under investigation to determine whether or not they are.”

Diaz is known to be affiliated to the Back-a-Town Crips Gang in Orange Walk. It is this affiliation which many people believe led to his shooting especially with a reported internal gang feud heating up.

“Why would anyone want to hurt Justin?”

Samuel Castro

Voice of: Cousin of Justin Diaz

“I think everybody to…I don’t know. I cannot give a reason why.”

Hipolito Novelo

“Do you believe it is because of the life he lived? We k now that he is part of that clique there.”

Voice of: Cousin of Justin Diaz

“Yes could be part of a clique but it’s not like he is a gunman who will go do a move or something like that. He is just a hang out friend. Even if you hang out with somebody, whosoever is around will always be the target. Our family is not in any gang. We are from work to home. People do not know us like that.”

Hipolito Novelo

“What are the doctors saying? Have you spoken with your aunt?”

Voice of: Cousin of Justin Diaz

“Last night we called them. Like after three he came out of his surgery. They say he is doing good now. Hopefully he comes home.”

Hipolito Novelo

“Is he speaking?”

Voice of: Cousin of Justin Diaz

“Yes, he is speaking.”

Hipolito Novelo

“Do you know whether or not he saw who did it?”

Voice of: Cousin of Justin Diaz

“To be honest, I don’t know if he saw it but people say that the camera caught it and he says he that he know the car or the cycle, I don’t know really good. He knows who it is.”
